The sector’s leading manufacturers suffer a decline in their half-year results
The major companies in the international aeronautical sector have seen a reduction in their earnings and profit during the first half of the year, suggesting that this will be a difficult year for the world industry despite the reactivation expected during the second half of 2010.
US manufacturer Boeing posted profits of 1.003 billion euros, a decrease of 19% with respect to the first half of 2009. In addition, its turnover was 9% less than the same period in the previous year at 23.681 billion euros. nonetheless, Boeing still maintains its year-end forecast and expects to have revenue of around 50 billion euros by the end of 2010.
Meanwhile, European giant EADS suffered a 51% drop in its earnings during the first half of this year, with a net profit of 185 million euros. EADS posted a gross operating profit (GOP) of 1.148 billion euros, 31% less than the previous year’s figures. nonetheless, EADS has maintained its revenue at 20.3 billion euros, 1% more than 2009, and it has received new orders worth 30.768 billion euros, 79% more than the previous year. According to the company, “this represents a major boost for commercial aviation and a solid platform for future deliveries."
Canadian group Bombardier posted half-year results of 235 million euros, a decrease of 16.4% compared to the previ- ous year. During the second quarter its net profits decreased by 26.8% to 115 million euros, although it still has “solid long- term forecasts" and is focusing on "managing its cost structure and improving cash flows."
