EADS calls on Spain to promote European UAVs
The CEO of EADS, louis Gallois, has indicated that he is very hopeful that Spain will take advantage of its presidency of the European union to set in motion "important initiatives" for the future of the Aerospace group. In this sense, the main project which EADS wishes to launch in the first half of 2010 is the Talarion Project for the development of a European unmanned Airborne Vehicle (uAV) according to ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance).
Spain is one of the partners promoting this project, the contract for which is to be signed in early 2010. The Andalusian aeronautical industry expects that this programme will require an investment of up to 1,000 million euros. The idea is for Spain to be the site of the EADS uAV Centre for Excellence, which could be based in Andalusia due to the good technical capabilities the region enjoys in ths segment.
